Former Sennheiser engineer Axel Grell has partnered with Drop (owned by Corsair, a company specializing in keyboard and audio peripherals), to launch the Drop + Grell OAE1 Signature headphones. Limited to only 1,000 units, these headphones are currently available for pre-order at US$ 349 with an expected shipping date of June 28th.
Grell, known for his contributions to the
development of popular Sennheiser headphones like the HD580, HD600, HD650,
HD800, HD800s, and HE-1, brings his expertise to the table with the OAE1
Signature. These headphones adopt an innovative design concept – placing the
driver unit further in front of the ear. This approach, previously used in
headphones like the HD800, aims to create a more natural sound field for the
listener.
The Drop + Grell OAE1 Signature headphones
boast an impedance of 38 Ω, a sound pressure level of 106 dB, and weigh in at
375g. While the image doesn’t reveal the overall design, it showcases the
headphones sitting on a table with the “grell” logo prominently displayed on
the side. The limited-edition status and innovative driver placement make these
headphones an intriguing option for audiophiles looking for a unique listening
experience.
