Sony announced the Xperia 1 V on May 11 last year, and it seems like the Japanese company is planning to stick to almost exactly the same timeline in 2024. According to a leaked poster from Weibo, Sony will be holding an Xperia launch event on May 17. The poster itself doesn't say which phone(s) will become official on that date, but it's pretty easy to assume that one (or the only one) will be the Xperia 1 VI, which has been leaking quite a bit lately.
The next Xperia flagship is expected to
give up on the 4K screen and the 21:9 tall screen aspect ratio, going with a
more industry standard solution in both cases. Thus, the Xperia 1 VI will be
shorter and wider than its predecessor.
Recent rumors also told us to expect it to
have the exact same rear camera setup as the Xperia 1 V, with improvements
coming by way of software processing only - and we wouldn't be surprised to
hear the "AI" buzzword mentioned a few times, as it is, after all,
the thing to do this year.
Otherwise, the Xperia 1 VI should of
course be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, and pair that with at
least 12GB of RAM.
