It seems the wait for refreshed iPad models may soon be over. Rumors of updated iPad Air and iPad Pro devices have swirled for months, and now a reliable source has pinpointed a potential launch window of early May 2024 for these new devices. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, known for his accurate Apple insights, dropped the hint in his Power On newsletter. According to Gurman, the new iPads will “probably” debut the week of May 6, giving us just about a month to expect the reveal.
The leak suggests we could see not only a
new iPad Pro and iPad Air, but updates to the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil
as well. Gurman has previously reported
on significant changes coming to the iPad Pro, including the inclusion of
powerful M3 chips, MagSafe wireless charging, and a major upgrade – OLED
displays in both 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. Naturally, with OLED technology,
you can expect a possible price increase for the Pro models.
Moreover, Gurman also suggests that Apple
is hard at work on updates to the standard iPad and iPad Mini. Sadly, we might
not see those models until later in the year, “at the earliest.” The update to
the base iPad could be a “cost-reduced” take on 2022’s 10th-generation model,
according to Gurman. Meanwhile, the iPad Mini could get a processor upgrade
while retaining its familiar form and features. With a potential early May
launch looming, keep an eye out for official announcements from Apple.
For now, Apple has confirmed that the WWDC
2024 will be held virtually from June 10th to 14th. Apple is expected to step
up its game in the AI race with the introduction of AI features in iOS 18, and
potentially new Mac products featuring the latest M3 chips.
