Tecno announced the Camon 30 Premier 5G ahead of its release in Q2 of this year (April-June). The announcement focused on several features including the new Tecno PolarAce Imaging System. The system is built around a Sony chip dubbed CXD5622GG. This isn’t a sensor but an ISP instead. It is rated at 4.6 TFLOPS at FP16 (16-bit floating point), which is more than the phone’s chipset (Dimensity 8200 Ultra) can muster on its own and this claims to be more power efficient to boot.
This compute power is thrown at several
tasks that enable full-scene AI noise reduction for HDR videos (a first in the
industry, Tecno claims) and 4K Ultra Night Vision videos. The dedicated ISP
reportedly uses much less power than other ISPs when processing 4K 30fps video.
It leverages the company’s Universal Tone, which is an AI-based solution for
rendering accurate skin tones. The AIGC Portrait mode will let you modify
portrait shots with things like adding formal clothes or graduation attire or
even wedding dresses. The AI One Click Eraser is self descriptive, removing
unwanted objects from a scene with a single click.
The Tecno Camon Premier 5G will use a Sony
image sensor too, the 50MP Sony IMX890 (1/1.56”, 1.0µm pixels) with OIS. The
phone is also equipped with a 70mm periscope with a 50MP sensor, which will
handle zoom (up to 60x hybrid zoom), portrait photos and even macro shots.
Additionally, there is a 50MP ultra wide The phone has been styled after
rangefinder cameras and the circular camera island has been made to look like a
zoom ring. To the side of it is the quad-LED flash.
On the front, the phone will have a
6.77" OLED display with 1,264 x 2,780px and 1,400 nits peak brightness.
The display will be an LTPO panel – the first non-foldable Tecno to use this
tech (it was featured on the Phantom V Flip and V Fold). The selfie camera on
the front also has a 50MP sensor and an autofocus lens.
The phone will have metal mid-frame for
the rigidity and premium feel. One interesting design is the “Action Dot” – a
breathing light on the back. This will light up while you record videos, but
also serves as a charging indicator and an indicator that the voice assistant
has activated. The press release also mentions that it is also an “infrared
sensor indicator”, the function of which we will find out later. The Premier
runs on a 5,000mAh battery with 70W fast charging that works over the USB-C
port. Additional connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and it even has an IR
blaster and FM radio receiver. The phone also has stereo speakers with Dolby
Atmos but no 3.5mm headphone jack.
As mentioned above, the phone is powered
by the Dimensity 8200 Ultra, which will run Android 14 out of the box. The
chipset is paired with up to 12GB of RAM (+ up to 12GB virtual RAM) and up to
512GB storage. The Tecno Camon 30 series will launch in Q2 of this year,
including the Premier and three other models (but those are covered in a
separate article).
