Sony officially launches the Alpha 9 III camera in the Philippines. Sony says that this will be the very first full-frame camera in the world boasting a Global Shutter System. In simple terms, the Global Shutter System enables the camera's revolutionary image sensor to expose and read all pixels at the same time. It is not like the typical rolling shutter sensor, which records images sequentially from the top row of pixels to the bottom.
This lets the Alpha 9 III to shoot at
burst rates of up to 120 frames per second (AF/AE) without rolling shutter
distortion or camera blackout. Furthermore, Sony stated that it fused the
Global Shutter System technology with its "most advanced" AI
autofocus (high-density focal plane phase-detection AF) with 120 times AF/AE
focus calculation per second.
Sony says that its AI processing unit
employs Real-time Recognition AF and Real-time tracking to identify a wide
range of targets with high accuracy and optimized human eye recognition
ability. Plus, Sony also stated that it
can sync with Flash at any shooting speed. It boasts optical 5-x in-body
picture stabilization with 8.0 stops for less shaky videos. For less shaking
videos, it has 8.0 stops of optical 5-x in-body image stabilization.
The global shutter full-frame stacked CMOS
sensor features 24.6MP and includes built-in memory. The chip it employs is the
most recent BIONZ XR image-processing engine, which enables the capabilities
specified above. The maximum shutter speed is 1/80,000 or 1/16,000 during
continuous shooting. There is also a one-second pre-capture mode that allows
you to shoot 120 shots before pressing the shutter, in addition to a custom
button function that partially increases shutter speed during continuous
shutter press.
As a whole, it supports crop-free 4K 120
fps videos along with 120 fps 14-bit RAW shooting for 192 frames. Sony states
that this camera is meant to help users prevent missing shots. It could be
useful in a variety of shooting situations, including sports, action, and
wildlife photography. Design-wise, the camera has a 4-axis LCD touchscreen, a
new mappable C5 button, an improved shutter key for a more responsive
experience, and a lock function for the drive mode dial.
Sony Alpha 9 III priced at PHP 349,599.
