Samsung was announced the Galaxy S24 Ultra at its Galaxy Unpacked event. It packs a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O Display with 1-120Hz variable refresh rate, and at up to 2600 nits peak brightness. It is powered by new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy that is clocked up to 3.4GHz, which is significantly higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s clock speed of 3.3GHz that is used in other smartphones. The phone also has vapor chamber cooling, which is now 1.9 times larger than the S23 Ultra.
The phone has a titanium frame for the
first time, has a significantly thinner body at just 8.6mm. A minimum of 50%
recycled cobalt was used in the battery, 100% recycled rare earth elements and a
minimum of 40% recycled steel in the speakers, and it includes a minimum of 10%
pre-consumer recycled TPU in the side and volume keys. Additionally, every
Galaxy S24 comes in a packaging box made from 100% recycled paper material.
The Corning Gorilla Armor on the Galaxy
S24 Ultra is optically enhanced and delivers dramatically reduced reflection by
up to 75% in a wide range of lighting conditions, ensuring a smooth,
comfortable viewing experience, said the company. The phone feature an
in-display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner and runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1,
and will get seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security
updates for the first time.
The Galaxy S24 series get Galaxy AI that
brings Live Translate, two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone
calls within the native app, Interpreter feature, Chat Assist, Note Assist,
Transcript Assist, and gesture-driven Circle to Search. It has a 200-megapixel
primary sensor with OIS, 12-megapixel Ultra Wide Lens with a 120-degree field
of view, 10-megapixel Telephoto lens for 3x zoom, and a new 50MP Periscope lens
for 5x zoom, supports 100x digital zoom and it has a 3D ToF sensor. The phone
features a 12-megapixel front-facing camera. It supports 8K 30 fps video
shooting.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s larger pixel size,
now 1.4 μm can capture more light in dim conditions, which is 60% bigger
compared to the previous model. Blur is reduced on Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider
optical image stabilizer (OIS) angles and enhanced handshake compensation. When
recording videos, both front and rear cameras are equipped with Dedicated ISP
Block for noise reduction, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra analyzes gyro information
to distinguish between the filmer’s movement and the subject’s. This allows
more effective noise removal and clear videos in the dark, even from far away,
said Samsung. AI-powered camera features include Galaxy AI editing tools, Edit
Suggestions, Generative Edit, and new Instant Slow-mo. It retains 5000mAh
battery with support for 45W fast charging, Qi wireless and reverse wireless
charging. The Galaxy S24 Ultra also comes with a built-in S Pen Stylus.
