Asus will announce its 2024 ROG lineup on January 8 at CES in Las Vegas which includes the upcoming ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro devices. A new leak from Windows Report gives us our best look at the two devices alongside their key specs and accessories. The ROG 8 and 8 Pro will adopt a refreshed design with a flat frame and updated camera island.
The other big design update is the punch
hole display – a first in the ROG Phone series. It allowed Asus to shrink the
bezels around the panel for a more modern look and smaller footprint than the
ROG Phone 7 series. ROG Phone 8 is listed at 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9 mm and 225
grams. Both phones share the same 6.78-inch AMOLED displays with FHD+
resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. The panels are protected by Gorilla Glass
Victus 2 and offer up to 2,500 nits peak brightness.
The ROG Phone 8 duo will debut with
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM on the ROG Phone 8 and up
to 24GB on the ROG Phone 8 Pro. Both phones will offer UFS 4.0 storage with
256GB on the vanilla model and up to 1TB on the Pro. Both devices share the
same RGB logo on the back. The new camera setup on the back will reportedly
feature a 50MP main cam (Sony IMX890) alongside a 13MP ultrawide lens and a new
32MP telephoto module with 3x optical zoom. The punch hole cutout upfront
houses a 32MP selfie camera.
Both phones will launch with Android 14
with ROG UI on top. We’re also assured of IP68 ratings, a headphone jack and
5,500 mAh batteries with Quick Charge 5.0 and PD Charging support at up to 65W
speeds.
