The Xiaomi had a big event in India today, where we saw the global unveiling of the Redmi 12 5G smartphone. It wasn’t the only international launch, as Xiaomi execs also introduced the Redmi Watch 3 Active on stage. The wearable upgrades on the six-month-old Watch 3 with a bigger screen and longer battery life. We also saw the Redmi 12 with 4G make a local debut, along with some more Xiaomi products - the Xiaomi Smart TV X series (not affiliated with the social media formerly known as Twitter) and the Redmi SonicBass Wireless Earphones 2.
Back to the Redmi Watch 3 Active - it
brings a 1.83” LCD with a resolution of 240 x 280 pixels and 450 nits peak
brightness. There is a single button on the side, while the heart rate and SpO2
sensors are at the bottom. The strap is plastic, although the correct term is
thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The body of the watch is also plastic,
although Redmi did not reveal it during the event - the brand said it has NCVM
coating, which is one way to give the material a metallic feel. It isn’t such a
big issue, as the wearable is still 5ATM waterproof and supports over 100 modes
of sports.
The Redmi Watch 3 Active comes in three
color options and brings over 200 watch faces. The widgets can add further
customization with over 50 different combinations. The battery has 289 mAh
capacity and can go on for 12 days of typical usage or 8 days with heavy use,
according to the official numbers. The wearable can be charged with a charger
that magnetically attaches to two pogo pins on the back.
The White and Black options are INR 2,999
(US$ 36), while the Olive Green variant is an extra INR499 ($6) but, for a limited
period, is just INR 99 (US$ 1.20) more. The Redmi Watch 3 Active will be available
starting from August 3 at mi.com and Xiaomi Retail stores.
