Sony has unveiled a new sound system that straddles between being a soundbar and a wireless speaker. The Sony HT-AX7 comes with detachable surround speakers and is as compact as it can get. The new Sony HT-AX7 delivers cinematic sound almost anywhere you want it with its wireless architecture.
The Sony HT-AX7 is significantly different
from any previous Sony sound offering. It is tagged a portable theatre system
and it can be transformed from a single unit to a tripartite system. This is
because it has two detachable speakers that combine with the unit. The Sony
HT-AX7 offers spatial and room-filling sound across the room with its unique
configuration. When the speakers are placed around the house in a triangular
arrangement, it offers immersive sound.
When the tripartite triangular arrangement
has been set up, the Sony 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology creates multiple
phantom speakers which envelopes the room. This delivers spatial audio with the
added benefit of a cinematic surround sound output. You just have to place the
speakers around without having to embed or install permanent units on the wall
or ceiling.
The Sony HT-AX7 features Sony’s upmixer
algorithm that can transform stereo into 3-dimensional surround sound. This
enables analyzing audio in real-time and delivering immersive sound. Current
reviews of the spatial audio offered by the HT-AX7 are positive whether playing
music or experiencing movies on a TV screen. The versatile Sony HT-AX7 can also
be used as a domestic speaker which can be popped anywhere in your room. The
HT-AX7 has up to 30 hours of battery life and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Sony Home Entertainment Connect App
provides the control tool for the HT-AX7. It provides a guided setup of the
sound system and you can adjust the sound field, volume, and other parameters
via your smartphone. The new Sony sound system does not come with a physical
remote unit. The product is made from 100% recycled PET bottles and its
packaging is based on bamboo, sugarcane, and recycled paper. The Sony HT-AX7
will arrive in August 2023 in Australia and other markets with a projected US$ 500
price tag.
