Xiaomi has launched a new security camera in China. The smart home accessory is officially called Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 PTZ. As the name suggests, the device supports pan, tilt, and zoom functionalities. Most importantly, it is the first smart camera from Xiaomi with a 5MP sensor. Thus, it supports up to 3K resolution.
The product is priced at ¥ 249 (US$ 35) and
it is already up for sale. There’s no official word on global availability yet.
The Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 PTZ is powered by a Mijia MJA1 security chip with
support for encryption. It has a 360° horizontal viewing angle and a 109°
vertical viewing angle.
The 5MP sensor enables 3K image quality
(2960 x 1666 pixels). It is accompanied by 8 ultra-violet lights for clearer
night vision. The camera can detect humans using AI and even follow them. The
processing for this happens locally on the device. But the face recognition
feature requires the cloud. Users can share the device with their family
members. Up to three persons can access the camera at the same time.
There’s support for two-way audio. The
camera can pick up human voices from up to 8 meters, which is an upgrade from 5
meters on previous models. The device supports dual-band WiFi and can record videos
with H.265 encoding to consume less storage space. It supports up to 512GB
MicroSD card and users can even opt for either cloud or NAS storage.
Last but not least, like any Xiaomi smart
home product, the Xiaomi Smart Camera 3 PTZ utilizes the Mijia platform. But if
and when it arrives in global markets, it should be compatible with Google
Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
