An online retailer has provided a listing of the yet-to-be-released Garmin Edge 540 and Edge 840 computers. The duo are updated versions of the Garmin Edge 530 and Edge 830 computers released in 2019. The new models come on the heels of the release last year of the Garmin Edge 1040 and 1040 Solar cycling computers.
Although the release date for the upcoming
Garmin Edge 540/ 840 has not been given, it seems imminent. The retailer listed
the models together with pricing information. The listing of the Garmin Edge
540 and 840 were from Adorama, a US-based electrical goods retailer. It listed
the Garmin Edge 840 and Edge 840 Solar but both listings were subsequently
taken down. The Garmin Edge 540 and its solar version were also listed by
Adorama.
While details and specs of the Edge 540
were minimal, more information was provided for the Edge 840 models. The
addition of solar power charging technology is a key improvement in the new
models. A growing number of Gsrmin smartwatches feature solar charging
technology. The battery life of the solar models is up to 32 hours on normal
use or up to 60 hours in battery-saver mode. The maximum battery life estimates
are achieved when access to sunlight is possible. Garmin’s ClimbPro is also
updated in the models. It appears the ClimbPro could operate independently of
preplanned routes, similar to the Hammerhead Karoo 2.
Connectivity features in the previous
models are expected to be sustained in the new lineup. The new Garmin bike
computers will also feature multi-band GPS, Power Guide, and Stamina features
present in the Edge 1040. The Garmin Edge 540 will retail at US$ 350 while the
solar version will cost US$ 450. The Garmin Edge 840 had a price tag of US$ 449.99
while the 840 Solar was priced at US$ 549.99. Garmin has not provided any official
details about the upcoming models yet.
