Phantom, the premium sub-brand of Tecno, is quite young but it is very ambitious – it is already preparing to launch its first foldable phone at this years MWC (which kicks off later this month). The device, dubbed the Tecno Phantom V Fold, has leaked several times, including on video. Now an insider speaking to GizChina has added some info on just what it was that we saw in those leaks. Phantom (and Tecno in general) likes to develop things in house and that includes the hinge of the foldable.
The Phantom V Fold has a “reverse snap
structure”, a design that will improve the structural stability of the phone. This
is further improved by the use of aerospace-grade materials that are both
strong and lightweight. The leakster also supplied an official-looking image.
You can just about make out three lenses on the circular camera island, but
apparently these are only part of a 5-lens setup (presumably including two
selfie cameras). The focal lengths of those lenses and the sensors behind them
are still unknown.
Tecno itself already confirmed that the
Phantom V Fold will be powered by the Dimensity 9000+, a boosted version of the
9000 (+5% CPU, +10% GPU). This chip was just recently used on another foldable,
the Oppo Find N2 Flip clamshell.
