The Play 40 Plus has a 6.74” LCD with 720p
resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The screen has a small waterdrop notch on top
for the 5MP selfie camera. The panel’s technology does not allow fingerprint
scanners underneath, meaning the sensor is on the side, over the power key.
The main camera is coupled by a 2MP depth
sensor, while the selfie camera has a 5MP sensor. Design-wise, Honor decided to
follow the dual circle solution from the number series with overlapping rings
but only on the colored versions - the black variant gets a simpler back. The
battery capacity of the Play 40 Plus is 6,000 mAh, which is the biggest ever in
an Honor smartphone. Charging goes up to 22.5W, which puts it on par with
midrangers from the X series, such as the X7 and X8. The user interface is
Magic UI 6.1, based on Android 12.
The phone comes in three memory
combinations, two of them with 8GB RAM - storage is either 128GB or 256GB, and
there is no microSD card slot. The more basic version has 6GB RAM and 128GB
storage. Honor Play 40 Plus comes in four colors - Purple, Silver, Blue and
Black. Prices are CNY 1,199 (US$ 165) for the 6/128GB version, CNY 1,399 (US$ 195) for
a 8/128GB unit, and CNY 1,599 (US$ 220) for the top 8/256GB model.
