The Adidas RPT-02 SOL wireless headphones come with up to 80 hours of playback on a single charge. It is a pair of solar headphones that can be charged even by room lighting. This means that the new solar-powered headphones guarantee juice even when it is raining or at night.
The RPT-02 SOL is the culmination of
Adidas’ collaboration with Zound Industries with charging possible via
artificial and natural light sources. This is the second iteration of the model
and it comes with several improvements. Its predecessor, the RPT-01 featured a
40-hour battery life but the new device has doubled that with its 80 hours of
playback. This is further enhanced with its charging capabilities, as you can
charge the RPT-02 even via room lighting. It can thus charge at any time of the
day. The Adidas RPT-02 SOL is made from recycled materials including plastic
and nylon. Its headband is made of a flexible light cell material that can be
screen printed into plastic. The solar charging technology was developed by
Swedish company Powerfoyle although the RPT-02 SOL is not the first headphone
to feature solar charging.
The new Adidas-branded device is not
waterproof but rated IPX4. There are built-in controls to change songs or
adjust the volume. The device also has an indicator that helps you to choose
the best light source for charging it. There is also a USB-C cable that can
also be used to charge the RPT-02.
The new headphones retail for US$ 229 with
availability slated for August 23 via Adidas Headphones’ website. The audio
specs of the headphones could put the retail price in proper perspective.
