The nubia Z40 Pro was just announced in China with two industry firsts. It brings a new 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor with a 35mm equivalent lens, while its limited Gravity edition is the first Android smartphone with magnetic wireless charging. The front panel has a 6.67” AMOLED with Full HD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. nubia says the Z40 Pro could reach 1,000 nits brightness.
The nubia Z40 Pro runs on Qualcomm’s
latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and comes in three RAM
capacities - 8GB, 12GB, 16GB. Storage options are four 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and
1TB. Those add up to a total of five combinations. There are three cameras on
the back. nubia is incredibly proud of the new sensor 1/1.3" 64" in
the main shooter and its f/1.6 7P lens with OIS. The sensor shoots 16MP images
with 4-to-1 binning by default.
There are also a 50MP ultrawide camera and
an 8 MP periscope telephoto shooter with 5x optical zoom. The selfie camera has
a 16MP sensor. The magnetic charging is prominently featured in the nubia Z40
Pro's promo pages, but in reality, not all phones will have it. There's a
limited “Gravity Edition”, which comes with a slightly smaller 4,600 mAh
battery and supports 66W fast-charging through the wire. It is also a bit more
expensive.
The other versions of the Z40 Pro come
with 5,000 mAh cell, 80W wired charging support, and no magnets in the back. The
interface in the phone is called MyOS 12 and is based on Android 12. nubia
equipped the Z40 Pro with a USB 3.1 port with a USB-C connector, NFC and an
under-display fingerprint scanner. The device lacks a micro SD port and a 3.5mm
audio jack, though.
Prices of the ZTE nubia Z40 Pro begin from
CNY 3,399 for a Black or Silver unit with 8/128 GB memory. The cheapest Gravity
Edition is CNY 4,299 and has 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. There is no word yet
whether the phone will escape China, and under what name.
