Sony is gearing up to launch the next generation of its premium headphones. The company’s WH-1000XM5 has just been spotted on FCC certification database, which has revealed some interesting information about it.
For those unaware, the Sony WH-1000XM5
will be the successor to the WH-1000XM4, which was quite popular in the high
end headphones market. And now, it seems like the Japanese tech giant is
seeking to launch its successor soon. Notably, we had recently also reported on
the brand working on a new premium Linkbuds WF-L900 earbuds as well. So it
seems like the company is planning on releasing both in ear and over the ear
design audio products soon.
Looking at the FCC certification (Via
NotebookCheck), the listing reveals that the headphones in question carry the
model number YY2954. Unfortunately, the certification does not reveal finer
details regarding the upcoming flagship headphones, although, they do offer
some interesting details. It appears that the headphones could be receiving a
redesign, since Sony has also printed the FCC IC, model number, and IC number
within the headband of the WH-1000XM5, which wasn’t the case with the
WH-1000XM4 model.
The FCC database also revealed that the
YY2954 also has a 3.8 V rated battery pack, up from the 3.7 V on the
WH-1000XM4. It will even feature support for 5 V / 9 V charging, which hints at
the headphones supporting fast charging as well. Apart from this, The Walkman
Blog found that an import listing for the YY2954, which is being shipped into
Hong Kong and India. Reportedly, the company has created prototypes that are
available in black and silver. Unfortunately, that is all the information we
have at the moment, so stay tuned for more updates.
