Leica is a brand synonymous with cameras but now it is announcing its first timepieces with the L1 and L2 watches. Leica is known not just for cameras but in producing binoculars, rangefinders, gun optics, and other devices with great optical lenses. This is the first time the company delved into watches though. The Leica L1 and L2 are luxurious, premium wristwatches. Both will feature a patented push crown as well. The watches' exterior design was made in collaboration with Professor Achim Heine who also had a hand in other Leica designs in the past.
The L1 and L2 watches, as a result,
showcases Leica's signature look with red accents and precisely engineered
parts like the hands, stainless steel case, crowns, and clear watch dome. The dome
itself will remind you of the glass covering its camera's lenses.
Both watches are powered by a mechanical
mechanism that has been totally redesigned and is manually wound. The movement
is visible through the transparent back of the watch, which is made of
scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. It also features 50-meter ATM water
resistance. The USD 10K Leica L1 features a veal leather strap while the USD
14K Leica L2 features an alligator leather strap and an alternate time zone
viewable via a second crown.
