A famous Weibo tipster said that Xiaomi is already scheduling two new premium smartphones. Both sport the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship chip. One of them will come with a 6.7-inch 2K LTPO resolution screen that also supports a 120Hz refresh rate. The other model will be a folding screen handset featuring an 8-inch 2.5K LTPO screen with an unknown refresh rate. That’s not difficult to guess that the former smartphone will be the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra, whereas the second model is going to be the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2.
If you remember, the first generation of the Xiaomi MIX Fold
smartphone came with the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Its internal screen was 8.01
inches with a 2K resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. Also, the phone debuted the
company’s in-house Surge C1 imaging chip. For the first time in the company’s
history, the phone came with a liquid lens. The latter could implement both
telephoto and macro shooting functions. At present, the price of this mobile
phone starts at 6,999 yuan (US$ 1106).
The second-generation product namely the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2
ought to increase the screen specifications. For instance, the inner folding
screen will support a high refresh rate above 60Hz. Also, we have heard the
phone will sport Samsung’s Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) on top. The latter is
currently found in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and also in the recently released
Oppo Find N. if you are not ware, UTG will ensure flexibility and durability by
injecting special materials into a sheet of glass that’s only 30 micros thick
during processing. Besides a number of technological advantages, it’s much
thinner than traditional smartphone display glass.
Lastly, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 could use a 5000mAh battery
that is likely to support faster charging. And we think the company’s newest
120W single-core charging will be among its selling points.
