With Apple’s AirTag official and Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag already on sale for a while, we see Tile’s tracking dominance challenged. It seems more competition is coming soon as Oppo’s Smart Tag was spotted by leakster Digital Chat Station who shared two images of the device on Weibo.
We can see Oppo’s tracker sports a round
puck shape and features a USB-C port for charging which is not that common with
other makers. For reference, Tile, Samsung and Apple’s trackers rely on CR2032
batteries which give you battery life ranging from several months to a year
depending on the model. Oppo’s decision to go with a rechargeable battery on
its tracker certainly seems more convenient.
The Smart Tage will also offer UWB (Ultra
Wide Band) connectivity which brings more accurate location tracking
information compared to Bluetooth tracking. There’s no specs or pricing
information for now so we’ll have to wait some more for Oppo to clear things
up.
