HarmonyOS 2.0 stable is set to arrive next month and (according to folks on Weibo) so will the first devices to run it out of the box – those will be two tablets and two smartwatches. The Huawei MatePad 2 (code name “Marx 2”) and the MatePad Pro 2 (“Wagner”) will be unveiled on June 2 and will become available in China on June 10th.
Earlier, leaks talked of two MatePad
slates, one with a 12.2” display and one with a 12.6” 120 Hz panel. The 12.9”
model will be powered by Kirin 9000 and will run “PadOS”, a custom version of
Harmony for tablets. Based on data from the 3C, the tablet will support 40W
wired and 27W wireless charging. There should be a 5G version as well.
The other two devices will be the Huawei
Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro. Those will run HarmonyOS with a revamped UI and will
be equipped with an eSIM for mobile data, which will enable WeChat and other
features. Compared to the Watch GT series, these will offer more functionality
at the cost of battery life.
As for the Huawei P50 series, which were
originally going to be the first to have HarmonyOS out of the box, that launch
is still up in the air. Recently, we saw hands-on photos of the vanilla P50,
but the leaksters couldn't pinpoint when the P50 series will be unveiled -
sometime in June or May is the best guess for now, but it wouldn't be the first
deadline to pass by quietly.
Huawei expects HarmonyOS to power 300
million device by year’s end. This includes devices have it pre-installed as
well as the various phones and tablets that will replace Android with Harmony
via an update.
