It’s not every day we see Meizu in the headlines. The company that once was one of the most relevant smartphone makers in China lost space with the crescent competition. Moreover, it failed to build a good global strategy such as companies like Oppo, Xiaomi, and Huawei (before the ban). Now, the company is pretty much concentrating its efforts on its domestic market. In May, the company unveiled a duo of flagship handsets dubbed Meizu 17 and Meizu 17 Pro. It’s not unusual to see Chinese companies launching special edition handsets. Meizu isn’t an exception. Today the company is unveiling a new Meizu 17 Kartrider Rush + Limited Edition Box for a 3,699 yuan (US$ 551) price tag.
KartRider Rush + is a trending game in
2020 and Mario Kart Go’s biggest competition. It’s natural to see Meizu betting
on a game that has a good amount of fans out there. We just don’t know if
anyone is engaged enough to buy a special limited edition gift box.
Interestingly enough, Meizu figures as the second company to partner with the game.
Huawei was the first one since it partnered with the game’s developers in the
HONOR X10 launch. The company offered a limited edition gift box for select
customers.
Honor offered a figurine inside the gift
box. Meizu, in counterpart, is offering just a scratch card for in-game
content. Moreover, Honor sent the box to select customers who pre-ordered the
HONOR X10 before its official sale. Meizu will offer the gift box as a prize
during the 11.11 (Singles Day) sale festival.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a hugely
customized phone as Oppo often does. Instead, we have a Fantasy Unicorn colored
Meizu 17 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. This colorway quite
resembles the recently released Huawei Mate 40 Pro on its Mystic Silver paint
job. The icing on the cake here is the exclusive content for Kartrider Rush+.
The device retails at the very same as the standard edition. The
limited-edition is available for pre-order until November 1. Actual sales will
start by November 11.
The Meizu 17 packs the Snapdragon 865 SoC
and draws power from a 4,500mAh battery with 30W fast-charging. The device
flaunts a 6.6-inch FHD+ display with a top right-aligned punch hole housing a
20MP selfie snapper. On the back, we have a horizontally aligned Quad-Camera
array with 64MP + 12MP + 8MP + 5MP cameras. The device ships with Android 10
and Flyme 8.1 running atop.
