Some interesting details about the upcoming AirPods and AirPods Pro successors emerged giving us a good idea of how the development is going and what they will look like. There's also a bit of bad news about the over-ear AirPods Studio headphones, which are being delayed due to some design issues.
Let's start with the vanilla AirPods.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is going with a more AirPods Pro-like look for
the standard AirPods next year with changeable tips. However noise-cancellation
won't be tricking down with the upgrade instead bringing, a considerable
improvement in battery life.
The Pro model, on the other hand, will
have a slightly different design. The stem will be axed and the overall design
will be a bit rounder and as a result, the chassis will be smaller too. Apple
is currently facing some challenges with the new design as it has to fit the
same hardware from the original AirPods Pro into a smaller chassis.
We've already mentioned that AirPods
Studio is being delayed. Why, is the interesting bit. It appears that the
headband proved to be too tight during the testing. The report also says that
Apple has deviated quite a bit from the initial concept and the interchangeable
headband won't be a part of the features list. The pads will still be
swappable, though. Moreover, the touchpads on the side of the headphones have
been reduced in size.
As a bonus, the report mentions something
about a new HomePod. It's supposed to fill the gap between the HomePod and
HomePod mini, which cost US$ 299 and US$ 99, respectively.
