The midrange market is getting more
competitive with each passing day with 5G devices coming in at more and more
affordable price points. The latest member of vivo’s affordable Y-series is the
Y70s and it manages to combine 5G connectivity, triple cameras and a starting
price of CNY 1,998 (US$ 280). It’s also the first phone to run on the Exynos 880
chipset, which is essentially an underclocked Exynos 980.
The Y70s is built around a 6.53-inch FHD+
LCD display with a punch hole cutout in the top left corner for its 16MP selfie
cam. Around the back we find a 48MP main camera alongside an 8MP ultrawide
snapper and 2MP depth helper. The right-hand-side houses the fingerprint scanner.
Under the hood we find the octa-core
Exynos 880 SoC. It’s based on an 8nm process with two Cortex-A77 cores clocked
at 2.0GHz alongside six small A55 cores working at 1.8GHz. The GPU is the
Mali-G76 MP5.
The software front is covered by
FunTouchOS 10 based on Android 10. The phone also comes with a 4,500 mAh
battery and 18W fast charging. The vivo Y70s is offered in black, blue and
white colors and is currently listed on pre-order in China. The 6/128GB version
goes for CNY 1,998 (US$ 280), there’s also a 8/128GB trim for CNY 2,198 (US$ 308).
Official sales start on June 1.
