TCL finally announced the full
specifications of its 10-series phones – the TCL 10L, 10 Pro and 10 5G. These
are fairly similar, pulling from the same bag of specs, but interestingly
enough the 5G model isn’t the top model. Let us walk you through the new trio.
The TCL 10 Pro is the only one with an
AMOLED screen – a 6.47” panel with 1080p+ resolution. It supports HDR10 and is
a Netflix-certified display, so you can watch new content in its full glory.
For regular content, there's an NXTVISION chip that does realtime SDR-to-HDR
tone mapping. The display’s has curved sides and a teardrop notch for the 24MP
selfie camera. There’s also an in-display fingerprint reader.
The quad setup on the rear boasts a 64MP
main camera (Samsung GW1, 1/1.7”, 0.8µm pixels natively and 1.6µm when shooting
16MP shots with 4-in-1 binning). Next up is a 16MP ultrawide-angle camera
(123°). This is followed by a 5MP “low-light camera” with 2.9µm pixels for
video, which is unique to the Pro. Finally, there's a 2MP depth sensor. The
main camera can record 4K video at 30fps.
The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 675
chipset with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage, plus a microSD card for
up to 256GB more. The 4,500mAh battery supports 18W Quick Charge 3.0 (50%
charge in 35 minutes). The TCL 10 Pro will come out in Q2 of this year and will
cost USD 450/EUR 450/GBP 400/AUD 900. It will run Android 10 out of the box with
TCL customizations on top and will be updated to Android 11 when the time
comes.
The TCL 10 5G goes up to a Snapdragon 765G
chipset – besides the 5G connectivity, this also means a faster CPU and GPU. It
also has 6GB of RAM, 128GB storage and a microSD. The has the same 4,500mAh
capacity and 18W charging. This model borrows the 64MP main sensor of the Pro,
but drops down to an 8MP ultrawide camera. It gets a 5MP macro cam instead of
the night cam, a 2MP depth sensor to bring the number up to four. Another
change is that there is now a fingerprint reader on the back.
This is because the front is different and
uses a 6.53” LCD with a punch hole and 16MP selfie camera. This panel also has
1080p+ resolution with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, HDR10 support too. The TCL 10 5G
will cost EUR400/GBP400, the release date hasn’t been revealed yet.
The TCL 10L has the same front as the 5G –
a 6.53” LCD with a 16MP selfie camera in a punch hole. The back is pretty
similar too, including the rear-mounted fingerprint reader and 8MP ultrawide
cam.
The main camera, however, gets a 48MP
sensor (Samsung GM1 - 1/2.25”, 0.8µm pixels). Also, the macro camera now has
only 2MP resolution, the depth sensor is the same. Despite the different sensor
and chipset, the phone can still record 4K video at 30fps. Speaking of chipset,
this model uses the Snapdragon 665 chip with 6GB of RAM. There are two options
for the storage – 64GB eMMC and 128GB UFS. The microSD card slot is also
available. This phone packs a 4,000mAh battery with no fast charging. All that
is reflected in the price, of course.
The TCL 10L will be out in Q2 at a price
of USD 250/EUR 250/GBP 200/AUD 500. All three 10-series phones use NXTVISION’s
SDR-to-HDR tone mapping. They also have 3.5mm headphone jacks and something TCL
calls “Super Bluetooth” – the ability to connect to four wireless speakers
simultaneously.
