Smartwatches come in different shapes and sizes and
with support for a varying set of features. Some manufacturers opt for more
capable platforms with a lot of functionality and power-hungry displays and
chipsets. Others deliver products for users who don’t need all the utility of a
wrist computer and just want notifications, fitness tracking and alarm
functionality.
The latest entry in this product category is the
Fossil Hybrid HR and it aims to successfully bridge the gap between sleek
design and functionality. The Hybrid HR offers the traditional wristwatch look with a rather
compact 42mm casing and analog dials but also adds an always-on e-ink display
in the middle. The display provides notifications, alerts, heart rate and
activity tracking data which you can interact with using the three buttons on
the right-hand side. You can also control music playback and personalize the
displayed complications.
The e-ink display allows for an advertised two-week
battery life on a single charge. The Hybrid HR features a stainless steel build
and comes with leather, silicone and stainless steel straps. It's waterproof up
to 3ATM and compatible with any Android 5.0 and iOS 9.0 and up device via
Bluetooth 4.2.
The Fossil Hybrid HR starts at US$ 195 and is up for
grabs on fossil’s US website. The smartwatch is also expected to arrive in more
regions soon, with India scheduled for November 18.
