The Sharp S7 is a rebranded variant of the Sharp Aquos Sense 3 Lite –
only it comes with a couple of new hardware features like a power-efficient
display and a large 4,000 mAh battery. Sharp also claims this device can last
up to 1-week on a single charge.
Judging by the antenna lines, we infer this phone
has a metal back cover, something we haven’t seen in a few years since most
phone makers switched to glass builds. The phone measures 147 x 70 x 8.9 mm and
weigs 167 grams.
The display is a 5.5-inch IGZO LCD panel with a
resolution of 2160 x 1080 px. The screen features Sharp’s IGZO LCD
energy-saving technology, which the company claims lets battery life last up to
one week. There to help the battery through its long-haul trips away from the
charger is a power-efficient Snapdragon 630 CPU paired with 3GB of RAM.
Around back is a single 12MP f/2.0 camera with
Electronic Image Stabilization, along with an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.2
aperture. The camera software includes AI features for enhancing the camera
experience.
The Sharp S7 will arrive with Android 10 out of the
box and Sharp says the S7 will receive one major Android update in 24 months at
minimum. It will also receive 36 months of security updates beginning on the
day device is available. Although no retail price is offered, Sharp will
release the phone in Japan in peach, silver, and gray colors sometime in
mid-December.
Sharp has a long history of making displays but has
since been surpassed by other display makers like Samsung and LG. We wonder if
Sharps energy-efficient displays are something we could expect to see from
other phone makers.
