Chinese tech giant Xiaomi launched the Car Robot
Smart HUD Bluetooth version under the crowdfunding platform. Three months
after, the Smart Heads Up Display is now available to buy on the Youpin
website.
Head-Up Displays also known as HUD, is becoming
increasingly common in all types of new cars, ranging from the Mazda3 to the
BMW 7 Series, but you don’t have to trade in your older model just to get one.
Several aftermarket solutions let you modernize your current ride, whether you
prefer an affordable device or a high-end product with a price tag to match.
The Bluetooth version of the Car Robot HUD is an affordable model with a 499
yuan (US$ 70) price tag. There is a higher version that retails for 1,499 yuan
(US$ 210).
The head-up display was first used in military
fighter jets and falls somewhere between a tech feature and a safety feature.
The device reduces dangerous distractions by displaying key information, such as
a car’s speed and navigation directions, directly in the driver’s line of
sight. Some systems project information onto the windshield; others project it
on a separate screen. The Car Robot Smart HUD comes with its own screen. It
uses FREE-FORM technology and is compatible with more than 90% of car models
around.
It adopts a low-profile and semi-concealed design,
which can not only integrate with the car but reflects the distraction-free
driving the gadget is meant to project in the first place. The body is made
from polycarbonate and ABS mixing process. It has high-temperature resistance,
anti-UV and doesn’t deform or discolour easily.
Furthermore, the smart HUD features a built-in
light-sensing system that adjusts the screen brightness according to the
brightness of the current environment. The display is smooth and has good
contrast and also doesn’t flicker. In addition to the automatic brightness
feature, you can also manually adjust through the physical button on the body
or via the app.
There are three different brightness modes for you to choose
from. As th name implies, this is a Bluetooth version but communication with
the car’s system is via the OBD port. There is an OBD connector inside the box.
The Bluetooth 4.0 can be used to pair the device with a smartphone.
