Xiaomi launched its first True Wireless Stereo
earphones, the Xiaomi AirDots Youth Edition late last year. It then followed it
up with the Xiaomi Air Bluetooth Earphones (Mi True Wireless Earphones/AirDots
Pro) in January. It appears a successor to the Xiaomi Air is now set to launch
as a leak has just revealed its retail box as well its name – the Xiaomi Air 2
(Mi AirDots Pro 2).
The retail box of the Xiaomi Air 2 Bluetooth
Earphones is shown in the background of a photo shared on the web. The photo
seems to have been taken at a Xiaomi office as the box is shown on the desk of
an employee.
A close-up photo shows the design has changed a bit.
The earbuds still come in white with a case just like that of the original.
However, the part that goes into the ears has been redesigned. The retail box is near identical
to that of the original Air save for the name which now says Air 2.
The Xiaomi Air 2 should be the Chinese version of
the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 (TWSEJ02JY) we saw on the Bluetooth SIG
website in July. The Bluetooth listing revealed the earphones now connect via
Bluetooth 5.0. The switch to Bluetooth 5.0 should improve connection and range
and translate to longer battery life.
We expect the Xiaomi Air 2 Bluetooth Earphones will
keep the touch controls of its predecessor. So you should be able to answer
calls, activate the AI assistant, or pause/resume playback by touching the
earbuds. It should also come with better noise cancellation. Xiaomi may announce the Air 2
Bluetooth Earphones in September, maybe alongside the Mi 9 5G or delay it a bit
and announce it alongside the Mi MIX 4 (if it eventually gets to call it that).
