HMD has published an invite for the unveiling of the
Nokia X71. The event will be held in Taiwan on April 2 and will also feature
the Nokia 9 PureView, HMD’s best camera phone for now (but perhaps not once the
event is over).
The X71 – which should eventually launch as Nokia
8.1 Plus globally – will be HMD’s first phone to feature a 48MP sensor. This
camera will be paired with a 120° ultra-wide shooter, both with Zeiss optics. This will also be the first Nokia
to sport a punch hole selfie camera, as seen in these renders. The screen
should measure 6.22”.
But do note that the X71 and 8.1 Plus will not be
entirely identical – the X71 is supposed to have a third camera on the back,
its function is unclear at the moment. The renders above show the dual camera
variant.
Like the Nokia 8.1, the 8.1 Plus is expected to be
an upper mid-range device, so don't expect a flagship chipset. That said, the
Snapdragon 710 of the current model is pretty zippy and the PureView uses a
chip from last year (the Snapdragon 845 is still faster than the 710, though).
