Sony is expected to make an announcement at the MWC
later this month and while we aren’t quite sure about rumors of an Xperia XZ4,
we’re seeing much more concrete evidence of a possible Xperia XA3 with a screen
of a 21:9 aspect ratio just as speculated for the XZ4. Sony will call this its
CinemaWide dislpay.
A few real images of the device have arrived from
sumahoinfo.com . These (blurry) images show what appears to be an upcoming Sony
device. Although not very clear, the photos show a very tall display. According
to the source, these were screen grabs from a live video that has since been
taken down.
These photos are in line with the latest render
leaks we saw from @rquandt just a couple of days ago. Otherwise, the camera
placement is similar: there’s a horizontally-placed dual-camera system with an
LED flash just over it. At least one of these cameras is rumored to be 23MP.
On the right side are three physical buttons for
power and volume control. There is also a dedicated fingerprint scanner that
sits between the two. Sony had legal patent issues with integrating the
fingerprint scanner directly in the power button back in the days of the Xperia
X when the fingerprint scanner had to be disabled for devices imported into the
US. The button placement matches that of those earlier render leaks.
We’ve not seen such a tall display make it on any
other smartphone so we wonder if it will play nice with various Android apps.
We hope Google’s app development guidelines are able to easily accommodate for
this tall of a display. Games will likely take some time before they could fill
out such a display properly.
This display is rumored to have a FHD+ resolution of
1,080 x 2,560px and screen size for the XA3 and XA3 Ultra are supposedly 5.9”
and 6.5”, respectively. Meanwhile, we’re expecting a Snapdragon 660 to power
the phone, which could possibly ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
