Canon maybe announcing a new smaller but more
affordable full-frame mirrorless camera this February 2019 after the EOS-R. The original EOS-R that was
released late in 2018 had a dimensions of 136 x 98 x 84 mm and had a weight of
1.45 pounds compared to the leaked EOS-RP's 132.5 x 85.0 x 70.0 mm dimensions
and 1.07 pounds weight.
The EOS-RP comes with a 26.2MP CMOS sensor from the
EOS-R's 30.1MP sensor. It also loses the TOP LCD and the multi-function Touch
bar. It retains the flip-out articulating touch display but with a lesser
resolution display. The EOS-RP's Electronic View finder gets a 2.36 million dot
display compared to the EOS-R's 3.69 million dot display.
The EOS-RP is down to 5fps from the 8fps of the
bigger brother for stills. Lastly, the EOS-R is weather sealed but the EOS-RP
is not. From the images it can be surmised that it will have a similar large
and thus stable grip that was loved by Canon fans in the EOS-R.
The leaks also said that it will be priced at USD
1699 without taxes and shipping for the body only. If true, then
this may be one of the most affordable full frame camera in the market if
released. It may come with the RF 24-105 kit lens as a bundle.
