The Samsung Galaxy J series started back in 2015
with countless midrange and entry-level smartphones. This year, however, the
branding saw its end with the Galaxy J4+ and Galaxy J6+. According to a new
information, the former J series will be replaced by another moniker, the
Galaxy R series.
Back in July, some reports pointed that Samsung was
working on a new smartphone series dubbed as Galaxy R. Now a new report from an
industry source reveals that this moniker will be used in a brand new
smartphone set to launch with a Snapdragon 450 chipset.
The Samsung Galaxy R name died in 2011 with a
smartphone that could be considered a midrange counterpart to the former
flagship Galaxy S2. While the device was well received, its lifetime was shortened
due to hardware issues that made the South Korean cut production and
consequently killed the device.
Despite the fact that the original Galaxy R could be
placed on a premium midrange segment if we look at how the things were back in
2011, the new incarnation of the series will target the low-entry segment.
However, not everything will be bad, since Samsung is expected to come with an
Infinite Display and special camera features to draw some attention over its
new smartphones.
