Garmin has just announced the immediate availability
of yet another smartwatch aimed at adventurers – Instinct. Garmin Instinct is a
rugged smartwatch built for outdoor activities, which doesn't come cheap at
all.
The smartwatch is now available for purchase in
three colors – Graphite, Flame Red, and Tundra, for US$ 300. Garmin Instinct
promises 14 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, 16 hours in GPS mode, or
up to 40 hours in UltraTrac battery save mode.
According to Garmin, the Instinct features
military-grade 810G standard for thermal, shock and water resistance (up to
100m). It's packed in fiber reinforced polymer case and boasts a “chemically
strengthened and scratch-resistant display.” This is a monochrome display
that's perfectly visible in the sunlight and features 128 x 128 pixels
resolution.
It's got all sorts of tracking capabilities and
sensors, including GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo, as well as 3-axis compass,
barometric altimeter, accelerometer, thermometer, and heart rate monitor. It
lacks NFC (Near Field Communication) and Connect IQ, but the smartwatch will
receive notifications and other alerts from your smartphone.
Speaking of notifications, Garmin Instinct is
compatible with Android and iOS devices, but some features like smart reply
will only work on Android.
