Motorola P30 was unveiled today. The phone was already listed yesterday on the official Moto website, but
today it is available for pre-order. The P30 arrives with Snapdragon 636
chipset, dual cameras for Bokeh effects and price tag of around US$ 300.
The Motorola P30 arrives with 6.2” IPS LCD panel and
Full HD+ resolution. There is a notch on top, making the tall screen even
taller, extending the ratio to 19:9. The octa-core CPU is clocked at 1.8 GHz
and comes with Adreno 509 GPU. Motorola coupled the chipset with 6 GB RAM and
two storage options - 64 GB or 128 GB. There is also microSD slot if you need
some more room for photos, apps and files.
The dual camera setup might copy Apple’s iPhone X in
design, but the sensors are 16 MP + 5 MP, both developed by OmniVision. The
main lens has f/1.8 aperture, while the secondary settled for f/2.2. It has
PDAF, 1080p video shooting and offers background blur. Between the sensors is
positioned the dual-tone LED flash. The selfie shooter has a regular 12 MP
sensor with f/2.0 lens and 1.25 um pixel size.
Since Motorola is a subsidiary of Lenovo, its parent
company decided to slap ZUI 4.0 on top of the Android Oreo 8.0. The user
interface was introduced with the now discontinued ZUK smartphones and later
resurrected with the Lenovo Z5. The phone is currently in China, so by default,
it comes without Google services. Hopefully, it will be presented later on the
global scene , eventually at IFA Berlin.
The Motorola P30 arrives with USB-C port on the
bottom, placed between two speaker grilles, sending the 3.5 mm audio jack on
the top side. A fingerprint scanner can be seen in the center of the back
panel, marked with the Moto logo. The battery, powering the device, is 3,000
mAh and comes with 18W fast charging.
The phone currently has two price tags for the two
storage options, but there are three colors available - Ice White, Bright
Black, and Aurora Blue that is reminiscent of the Huawei P20 Pro. The price for
the 6/64 GB variant is CNY 1,999, while the version with 128 GB storage is
CNY 2,099. This converts to US$ 289/€ 255 or US$ 303/€ 268, putting the device above the
Lenovo Z5.
