Samsung’s next Galaxy S line phone – the Galaxy S10
is much talked about for reasons other than its processing power. But here we
have some rumours surrounding the next chip that will run the show on the
Galaxy S10. As per rumours from Weibo, the next chip is supposed to be the
Exynos 9820 that will succeed this year’s Exynos 9810. Furthermore, the
Mali-G76 MP18 GPU will be on board the new CPU.
The tip comes from Ice Universe, a known source of
Samsung leaks, who sometimes is quite cryptic with his posts on Twitter and
Weibo. The source doesn’t state anything else than the name of these two above
mentioned processors. But we know from experience that the Exynos variants have
underperformed in gaming and battery life compared to its Qualcomm counterpart.
The Mali-G76 is the first and latest 7nm mobile GPU from ARM this year. TSMC
has been tasked to produce the chips even though Samsung will aid ARM in its
building of new flagship Cortex-A76 cores.
GPUSamsung has reportedly been working on its own
in-house GPU but it seems that won’t be ready in time for the Galaxy S10.
That’s why Samsung is opting for the only flagship option it has – the Mali-G76
MP18. The MP18 here signifies 18 cores that will be on the GPU. That is not a
bump from the G72 but still, there will be higher performance, and battery
efficiency because of the 7nm process.
Among the latest news is that the Galaxy S10 will
have three variants. The two regular and plus variants will be accompanied by
an entry-level Galaxy S10 next year. Also, the Galaxy S10+ is now said to get a
total of five cameras. That means two for the front, and three at the back with
the inclusion of a super-wide angle lens. Samsung is rumoured to launch the
line in February.
