Following the success of last year’s Xiaomi Mi A1,
the low-cost Chinese brand is expected to unveil an official successor sometime
this summer. Despite the current lack of an official announcement, though, one
online retailer has decided to jump the gun by posting pre-orders for the Mi
A2, revealing a number of its details in the process.
As expected from the Android One smartphone, the Mi
A2 will be based on the Mi 6X. This means a metal construction will once again
be present, with the front panel being adorned by a tall 6-inch display.
Furthermore, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 will power the smartphone and it will be
coupled with the choice of either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Those who choose the lower
RAM count will gain access to 32GB or 64GB depending on their preference, while
the latter model will ship with 128GB of internal storage. Nevertheless, it’s
worth noting that this won’t be expandable via microSD.
When it comes to the remaining details, stock
Android 8.1 Oreo is expected to ship straight out of the box, although a speedy
update to Android P is to be expected. Furthermore, keeping the lights on will
be a 3,010mAh battery while, on the camera front, a main 12-megapixel rear
sensor will be included next to a secondary 20-megapixel sensor, which itself
is identical to the selfie camera featured up front.
Currently, Xiaomi is yet to confirm the device
officially, but according to the online retailer, sales of the smartphone will
commence August 8, suggesting an announcement will take place in the final week
of July. In regards to pricing, the 32GB model kicks off the lineup at US$ 290,
with the 64GB setting consumers back US$ 330, and the top-of-the-line 128GB model
costing US$ 370. Regardless of the variant chose, however, the device can be
acquired in Black, Blue, or Gold.
