Smartisan deserves to be
dubbed an innovative company. The Smartisan R1 was launched last month, packing
a design that places it in a class of its own. The R1 became the first and only
smartphone with a 1TB storage version. Apart from the 8GB + 1TB version, the
device is available in a 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 128Gb version.
Smartisan has now announced a new memory variant of the R1.
The new variant houses 8GB of RAM and a massive
512GB storage and will go on sale in China at 10 AM on June 14. The new variant
comes with a 4999 yuan (US$ 781) price tag. Unfortunately, there is still no
indication that any of the Smartisan R1 variants will be available soon outside
China. This is inspite of the recent disclosure by ECoinmerce that it would
sell Smartisan phones in North America. Perhaps, the modalities are still being
worked out.
Apart from the 512GB storage, the new Smartisan R1 variant
isn’t any different in terms of specs from the other Smartisan models launched
last month. The device keeps up with the 6.17-inch pressure sensitive display
with a 2242 x 1080 resolution and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The display is
protected by a Gorilla Glass 3 protection and equally has 1500:1 contrast
ratio, and a 96% color gamut (DCI-P3). The device s powered by a Snapdragon 845
chipset and has a host of network bands including LTE Band 20 which positions.
The R1 packs a dual camera setup at the rear which consists of a 12MP Sony
IMX363 sensor with a f/1.8 aperture and a 20MP Sony IMX350 secondary sensor
with a f/1.75 aperture, 1μm pixel size, and 6P lens. The selfie shooter is a
24MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture ArcSoft ray algorithm and AI real-time beauty
mode.
