When Nintendo first announced their NES Mini retro
console, fans everywhere fawned and cheered. That happened again last year when
they announced their follow-up, the SNES Mini. But, fans of Nintendo’s biggest
competitor were left out in the cold. Thankfully, now Sega has announced
they’re following suit with the Genesis Mini.
Tentatively, the developer is actually calling it
the Sega Mega Drive Mini, but we here in the states know the console it’s
modeled after as the Genesis. The details regarding what this console will have
to offer are few and far between, but – if history serves – we hope to see it
loaded with classic games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Streets of
Rage, and maybe even deeper cuts like Earthworm Jim. The system is slated for a
Japanese release later this year, but we can’t imagine they’ll want to keep the
Genesis Mini out of the hands of American consumers.
