The Galaxy S9, much like the Galaxy Note 8 from last
year were both widely rumored to feature the in-display fingerprint technology.
Expectations became high again this year when both the Galaxy S10 and the Note
9 started hitting the rumor mill. However, the chances of the Galaxy Note 9
launching with the now trending in-display fingerprint sensor has been quashed
as recent reports suggest that might not be feasible.
With the Galaxy Note 9 out of sight, obviously, the
major focus is now on the Galaxy S10 which is expected to debut much later in
2019, and fortunately, current rumors suggest the S10 might get the in-display
fingerprint sensor. Reports out of Korea suggests that the company might have
finally decided to go with an in-display fingerprint sensor for the Galaxy S10
due to the recent aggressive adoption of the tech by Chinese firms.
While previous reports did suggest Samsung has been
experimenting with an in-house in-display fingerprint technology for a while
now, the latest scoop says Qualcomm might be the one to supply the tech that
will come with the Galaxy S10.
The in-display fingerprint technology has already
featured on a number of phones and is even expected to feature in the upcoming
Xiaomi Mi 8, but Samsung is taking its
time for some unknown technical difficulties, but anything short of a
fingerprint sensor for the anniversary Galaxy S10 might not augur well for the
company, as it needs something special to properly celebrate the family’s
milestone.
