Motorola may be preparing its first Android Go device. The smartphone in question goes by the model number
XT1920 and has already been approved by the ECC for sales in certain European
and Asian markets. But, thanks to a new listing on the FCC’s website in the US,
it appears the smartphone will also be coming to North America.
It’s presently
unclear what the Motorola product will look like, but the certification
listings do reveal that the device boasts just 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal
storage. Furthermore, a battery of between 2,000 and 2,100mAh is included along
with support for LTE. Also, in regards to dimensions, the listings reveal that
the smartphone measures 147.88 x 71.22mm, suggesting a display of between
5-inches and 5.2-inches is to be expected.
Presently, it’s unclear which smartphone the
certifications relate to but, considering the device will likely act as the
brand’s entry-level model, the upcoming Moto C2 that leaked last month is the
most possible candidate. After all, last year’s Moto C also boasted just 1GB of
RAM and was offered with the choice of either 8GB or 16GB of storage. However,
due to the smartphone’s June 2017 release, it shipped with regular Android 7.0
Nougat out of the box, instead of the lightweight Android Go that was announced
at a later date to compliment Android 8.1 Oreo.
Clearly, this is just speculation for now, but
taking into account Motorola’s plans for a new Moto C2 lineup, a switch over to
Android Go seems like a natural step for the series and would also allow the
brand to introduce only minimal hardware upgrades.
