The Meizu 16 has been the only Meizu device in the
news for so long, one may think they won’t be launching another phone again
this year. That won’t be the case as Meizu’s own CEO has revealed they have
another phone in development called the Meizu X8.
Speaking on the official Meizu forum earlier today,
Meizu’s CEO Jack Wong (Huang Zhang) revealed that they have a new phone coming
soon called the Meizu X8. Fortunately, he didn’t just reveal the name of the
device but also mentioned two key specs.
First, the Meizu X8 will come with a Snapdragon 710
processor just like the Meizu 16. This is confirmation that it is only the
Meizu 16 Pro that will come with a Snapdragon 845 chipset. Second, since both
phones (X8 and Meizu 16) use the same chipset, he adds that the X8 won’t have
an in-display fingerprint scanner, a feature already confirmed for the Meizu 16
series.
You may be wondering why the device is called X8
since there is no X1, X2, X3…X7. The explanation provided is that the X series
replaces the MX series. The last phone released under the MX series is 2016’s
MX6. Since Meizu didn’t release the MX7 last year, it makes sense as to why
they are going with (M)X8 this year as it keeps the naming in sync with the
year (2018).
More details about the Meizu X8 should surface in
coming weeks.
