The Huawei Watch 2 (2018) is official and not much
has changed since the Watch 2 Pro. This model is available with nanoSIM or eSIM
that connect the smart timepiece to 4G networks, plus a cheaper Bluetooth-only
version.
The screen is a 1.2” OLED with 390 x 390 px
resolution, which is protected by Gorilla Glass. The watch weighs 57g and
measures 45 x 48.9 x 12.6 mm, the wrist bands are not easily changed. The
casing is IP68 waterproof.
The Watch 2 (2018) is powered by a Snapdragon 2100
chipset, no surprises here. It has 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of built-in storage.
Thanks to NFC, it supports a plethora of payment systems – Huawei and Ali Pay,
plus the WeChat system.
With an eSIM, it can make calls and use web
services, including streaming music. There’s a built-in GPS, which tracks your
runs in real time. The watch can track your heart rate as you run and it will
monitor the quality of your sleep at night. There’s a Galvanic Skin Response
sensor too, plus a barometer, accelerometer, gyro and compass.
With “typical” workouts, the battery will last 1 and
a half days, which drops to just 1 day if you use 4G. The battery can be
charged completely in 100 minutes. The Huawei Watch 2 (2018) is currently
available on Vmall.com at a price of CNY 2,000 (US$ 310/€ 270). Color options are
Carbon Black (eSIM version) and Vibrant Orange (nanoSIM). There’s a
Bluetooth-only version for CNY 1,540 (US$ 240/€ 205) available in Star Gray and
Carbon Black.
