Garmin has launched the Forerunner 645 smartwatch in
India. The watch is priced at INR 39,990 (Us$ 589), which is quite a bit more than
the US$ 450 US price tag.
The Forerunner 645's main feature is that you can
store up to 500 songs on the watch itself. These songs can then be streamed to
your Bluetooth headphones, so you can leave your phone behind when you go for a
run. The watch also feature's Garmin's contactless payment system, although I'm
not sure if it works in India.
Apart from that this is more of a fitness tracker
than a true smartwatch, seeing as it doesn't exactly run Wear OS. But it's a
pretty comprehensive fitness tracker with all the bells and whistles you can
expect, including GPS. The battery life without GPS is an impressive 7 days but
tanks to 14 hours with GPS and just 5 hours with GPS and music playback.
At that price, this is too expensive to give any
serious thought, especially if you have an iPhone and can just get the Apple
Watch.
