Amazon is expanding its lineup of Fire TV products
today with the Fire TV Cube. It looks like this product is the replacement for
the high-end Fire TV that Amazon released way back in 2015 and last year’s Fire
TV Stick. Of course, Alexa is built into the Fire TV Cube which also offers the
same far-field voice recognition that Amazon’s Echo devices offer.
The Fire TV Cube is a 4K UHD streaming media player
that features Alexa. This will allow users to control their TV from across the
room. All you have to do is give Alexa commands to power the TV on and off,
change the channels, adjust the volume, change the cable channel and more.
The device is also compatible with set-top boxes
from Comcast, DISH, and DirecTV. It will let you control your live TV
experience with voice commands through these boxes. Streaming apps like Hulu
and PlayStation Vue are also supported. Alexa’s responses on the Fire TV Cube
will be also optimized for the big screen and accompanied by rich visual
information. You will be able to watch video flash briefings, smart home camera
feeds, sports scores, weather forecasts, and more.
Amazon Fire TV Cube is available for pre-order for US$ 119.99 and will ship on June 21st. If you have a Prime membership you can
pre-order it on June 7th and June 8th for US$ 89.99.
