Xiaomi has been stirring things up quite a bit in
the rumor mill lately. As promised, the Mi 6X/ Mi A2 was unveiled on April 25,
but the event notably skipped over any details, regarding the
eagerly-anticipated Redmi S2 handset. After a few rumors, followed by the
obligatory trips to TENAA and the 3C certification authority, it's pretty clear
the budget device is well on its way to a release.
That might just be sooner than we though, since
pre-production units seem to already be floating about in the open. In this
particular case, a source out of the Czech Pepublic, appears to offer
high-resolution photos and detailed specs on the still unofficial device.
Confirming previous leaks, the Redmi S2 is equipped
with an 5.99-inch, 18:9, IPS display, rocking a resolution of 1440 x 720
pixels, or HD+. It is powered by the tried, true and efficient Snapdragon 625
chipset, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
The dual rear camera setup, arranged in the new
Xiaomi vertical fashion, consists of a 12MP main snapper and a 5MP secondary
one. No word on the selfie from the new source. But previous leaks hint at a
16MP unit. The battery capacity back down to 3,080 mAh.
Other details about the Redmi S2 include an Android
8.1, Oreo ROM, a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and 3.5mm audio jack. The
latter two are clearly visible on some of the hands-on shots and so is the
dated microUSB connector, Xiaomi is unfortunately still sticking with.
Regardless, we get to see the Redmi S2 up close as
well. Plus, the source also features an invitation to attend the store's grand
opening in Prague today and potentially even see the Redmi S2 unit in person.
There should also be promotions and special offers on location. If you happen
to be be nearby, it might be worth checking out.
