After making the new Vive Probe virtual reality
headset available priced at an eye watering US$ 799, HTC have today announced the
availability of the Vive Pro bundle which includes the new high-resolution
headset, 2.0 Base Stations and motion controllers for US$ 1,400. The new bundle is
first being made available in “Western markets” and is currently listed on
Amazon priced at US$ 1400 with a shipping timescale of 3 to 5 weeks.
The new Vive Pro VR bundle includes the Vive Pro
headset, two 2.0 SteamVR tracking base stations and two of the ‘pro blue’
motion controllers.HTC is also planning to sell the 2.0 SteamVR tracking base
stations separately in the near future but as yet no information on pricing or
availability has been made available.
The Vive Pro virtual reality headset offers improved
resolution when compared to the original VR headset. Offering a 78 percent
increase in resolution jumping from a 2160 × 1200 resolution display to a 2880
× 1600 or 1440 × 1600 pixels per AMOLED display for each eye.
Even with the upgrades and the headset the new Vive
Pro is being classed as just a small improvement rather than a next generation
device. As soon as more availability as announced by HTC and official pricing
for Europe and the US we will keep you up-to-date as always.
