It looks like Samsung is the next smartphone company
to jump on the Android Go bandwagon. The version of Android that's been specifically
designed to work on entry-level phones with 1GB RAM or less has been supported
by many handset manufacturers lately.
An unannounced Samsung smartphone has been recently
spotted at Geekbench and judging by its specs, this could be the South Korean company's
first Android Go handset. The device goes by model number SM-J260G and packs
just 1GB RAM and a quad-core Exynos 7570 processor.
Another piece of information that suggests this
might be Samsung's first Android Go smartphone is the name of the motherboard –
“Universal7570_Go.” More importantly, the device runs Android 8.1 Oreo, which
wouldn't be possible if not for Android Go.
Rumor has it, the phone will be launched on the
market as Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, but we have yet to obtain an official
confirmation. If this is indeed an Android Go handset, it should be initially
launched in emerging markets, but a global rollout isn't out of the question.
