i-Blades has what it calls SmartCase. It's a modular
case with magnetic connectors on its back. At its core, it's a protective case
with an embedded air quality monitor inside it. Yeah, that may sound like a
redundant feature, but it kind of makes sense in the context of the S Health
suite and its UV sensor, heartbeat sensor, blood pressure meter, et cetera.
That i-Blades shell has three magnetic connectors on
its back. You slap the external battery (called Smartblade) on them and voila –
you get power. But that's not all — the Smartblade battery module also carries
extra storage (16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB), which syncs with your phone when
connected. Additionally it has a micro SD card slot of its own. Again, a
feature that may seem a bit superfluous, considering the Galaxy S9 already has
64 GB of storage and its own SD card slot. But hey, storage is storage. The
Smartblade only holds 1,800 mAh, but you can stack up to 4 of them together via
their magnetic connections.
i-Blade also talks about developing different
modules in the future, so the SmartCase might evolve into being something of a
Swiss army knife of cases. We'll have to wait and see if that potential is
fulfilled.
