The notebooks market is one of the most active
segments in the PC market nowadays. Even phone makers such as Huawei and Xiaomi
have had to enter this niche. But there are ‘old’ players like the South Korean
LG. And today one of the world’s thinnest laptops carrying this brand became
available in China (and not only). The LG Gram Z980 series notebooks are
available at a starting price of 6999 yuan (US$ 1102) on JD.
The LG Gram
Z980 series notebooks come in three different sizes of 13.3 inches (13Z980), 14
inches (14Z980), and 15.6 inches (15Z980). All three feature LG’s own IPS
InCell panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 96% sRGB color gamut, and a narrow
bezel of 5.9-6.7mm. Their thickness is 14.5mm, while the body weight is only
965/995/1095 grams. So they correspond the product’s name. However, the thin
body didn’t affect the battery capacity, and they come with a 72Wh battery
providing up to 22.5 / 21.5 / 19 hours of a life time.
The LG Gram Z980 family laptops use the new
carbon-magnesium alloy body and a redesigned internal structure. Now it’s more
durable. Particularly, it’s passed the MIL-STD 810G US military standards. That՛Õ½ why it can deal with the impact,
vibration, low pressure, dust, high temperature, low temperature, smoke, and
other 7 kinds of dangerous environment.
As for hardware, the 13.3 and 14-inch variants are
equipped with the latest 8th-gen Core i5-8250U quad-core eight-thread processor
paired with an 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, and DTSX audio speakers. The 15.6-inch
variant is upgraded to Core i7-8550U and 512GB SSD. At last, there is an HDMI
port, a USB Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, a microSD card slot, and comes with
a fingerprint scanner.
