At its press conference at MWC, Asus unveiled
three new smartphones, the first being the Zenfone 5 Lite. This is going to be
the entry-level model in the Zenfone 5 family. It packs four cameras, two of
them with a 120-degree wide-angle field-of-view, one on each side. The main
rear camera is a 16 MP f/2.2 unit with phase detection autofocus and 80-degree
field-of-view, while the main selfie snapper is a 20 MP f/2.0 part using the
Sony IMX376 sensor and boasting an 85.5-degree field-of-view.
The phone has a 6-inch 2,160x1,080 display, and an
80.3% screen-to-body ratio, which is commendable for a "lite"
version. You will be able to buy the Zenfone 5 Lite with either the Qualcomm
Snapdragon 430 at the helm, or the Snapdragon 630. The latter gives you the
option to record 4K videos with the main rear camera and you also get support
for the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, whereas if you go with the SD430 you're limited to
1080p and 2.4GHz.
Your RAM/storage options will be 3/32 or 4/64.
There's a triple slot housing two SIM cards and one microSD alongside them, and
a fingerprint scanner is included on the back. The Zenfone 5 Lite has a 3,300
mAh battery that charges via microUSB, NFC, an FM radio, and 2.5D curved glass
both on the front and the back. It will be available in Rouge Red, Moonlight
White, and Midnight Black. The device runs Android Oreo with Asus ZenUI 5.0. It
weighs 168g.
